Galle Fort Hotel

The building and the courtyard are beautiful but the room layout was horrendous. Bedrooms face inner courtyard and are dark. Service was fine but not excellent. Our suite had a maisonette sleeping area with a slippery, squeaky and steep staircase connecting the bedroom and the rest of the room. Going to the bathroom at night was a real mission of trying not to break a limb. On top of that, the stair was so squeaky walking on it meant not only waking up everybody in your room, but in the neighbouring rooms as well. We had a loud ac unit rattling through the night which the management fixed upon request. Food wasn’t great at breakfast, better at dinner. Lovely live musing on weekends. Cocktails were overpriced and not too good. Overall it’s a superb location in the fort and an impressive historic building, but that’s about it for the good stuff. If it was half the price, it would make sense.

Great 5 star hotel in central Galle with pool and outside street view tables for drinks and people watching. Stayed 2 nights, lovely staff and good menu breakfast. Pool was quiet so nice and relaxing. Our room (library suite) was massive with beautiful furniture and a bath in the room, plus a separate bathroom. Only negative was the room was a little noisy at night from various bits of machinery just outside bedroom window. Always travel with ear plugs.

The 625ml water bottle wasn't on the menu, and upon receiving the bill, we discovered it was 30% more expensive than a small beer (330ml). The manager explained that the water is a recent addition to the menu, hence not listed, which I find non-transparent.

I recently visited this hotel and had a disappointing experience with their pricing. The cocktails were enjoyable, but when we received the bill, we were shocked to find that two small glasses of water cost a staggering 1200 rupees. To make matters worse, the water wasn't even listed on the menu. When we questioned this, the manager claimed it was a new addition and hadn't been updated in the menu yet. This lack of transparency and the exorbitant pricing for an essential like water left a sour taste in our mouths. Such deceptive tactics are unacceptable, and I cannot recommend this establishment to others. One star is generous considering the blatant disregard for fair and honest pricing.

The place has a lovely design, and the staff is generally friendly. However, our experience took a negative turn when we ordered a beer. Each glass of water, surprisingly, costed 600 rupees, while the beer was priced at 900 rupees. Feeling uncomfortable and sensing a discrepancy, we approached the English lady manager. Unfortunately, her response that water is a new addition to the menu, accompanied by a smirk, was both unpleasant and unacceptable. Such treatment is not in line with the expectations for a place of this caliber, and I cannot recommend this establishment, especially due to the manager's handling of the situation.

Wonderful stay at Galle Fort Hotel. Staff all very friendly and attentive. We were upgraded to Grand Apartment which was a fantastic space and staff were very kind bringing up a bed for my daughter so she could sleep undisturbed from her mother's snoring! Ropewalk bar has a fantastic selection of cocktails based on a huge range of arracks. Definitely try their signature arrack sour...delicious! Dinner a la carte and also excellent. Really couldn't fault it!
